Alison Sims Courtney joined the Segars Stables family as Trainer and Professional Rider in 2010. Since then, she has enjoyed teaching riders and horses of all levels to be competitive from GHJA Local and USEF/USHJA “A” rated competitions all the way to Pony Finals and Indoors. Her riders have enjoyed many successes including ribbons at Capital Challenge, Washington International Horse Show, US Pony Finals, and the Gladstone Cup Equitation Championship. Her training and riding philosophies stem from the Forward System of Riding, which promotes the highest standards of horsemanship and thoughtful riding technique. In addition to her work as a trainer, Alison is a USEF ‘r’ Licensed Course Designer.
She grew up riding in the Alpharetta area with Julie Mohr of BritMohr Farm. During her junior career Alison competed in the Hunter, Jumper, and Equitation rings, qualifying for and placing at prestigious events as Devon and the Pennsylvania National Horse show in Harrisburg.
Alison attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia, where she competed on the IHSA, ANRC, and Hunter Show teams under the instruction of Shelby French, Jon Conyers, Mimi Wroten, and Glen Moody. During her time at SBC, she enjoyed multiple clinic opportunities with professionals such as Joe Fargis, Danny Robertshaw, Scott Hofstetter, Rita Timpanaro, Julie Winkel, Mike Henegan and Jill Randles. Alison competed in the ANRC National Championships four years in a row, placing in the top 15 individually all four years. Other collegiate riding accomplishments include winning the 2007 SWVHJA Adult Medal Finals, Reserve Champion Cacchione Cup rider for Zone 4, and multiple championships and reserve championships at prestigious horse shows such as the Middleburg Classic, HITS Culpeper, and SWVHJA Finals. Alison is an ANRC Level Four Certified Rider.
