We Believe:

• Champions are made in and out of the arena. In order for our riders to succeed in the arena, it is crucial that they understand their horses’ needs in the barn. Both horse and rider are athletes, and both require careful time and attention to perform their best. Under our expert eye, all Segars Riders are taught the necessary steps in creating top quality care and performance. 

• Success cannot be achieved without failure.  We believe that riders must learn to handle failure before they can truly manage success. Riders are taught the value in learning to be internally competitive instead of being constantly preoccupied with the successes/failures of their peers. how to compete against themselves and to rely on the support and example set by their teammates as they learn to cope with failure.  

• Education leads to excellence. Our training and riding philosophies stem from the Forward System of Riding, which promotes the highest standards of horsemanship and thoughtful riding technique. All riders are not just taught the “how” of riding but the “why” as well. Our trainers and riders make a point of participating in several clinic/continuing education opportunities both on/off property throughout the year. 

• Teamwork is crucial to development. At Segars Stables, our riders are encouraged to adopt a “team first” attitude. Riders are taught the values of compassion, initiative and self-advocacy so that they may develop productive and collaborative relationships with their horses, peers, and professional team of trainers, vets, farriers, and farm staff.
